Become a Tutor
Step 2: Criminal Record Check & Vulnerable Sector Check
Once your application has been processed and you have been invited to join SHINE Academics as a tutor, you will need to complete a mandatory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. The library will invite you to do this through mybackcheck.com, so keep an eye on your email, as the invitations are time sensitive.
Find detailed instructions here! If you have any questions about this process, please email info@shinehalifax.com.
Step 3: The Match
We want to ensure both students and tutors have a successful and enjoyable experience with SHINE Academics. Sometimes matching student-tutor pairs takes time because we not only take grade level into consideration, but interpersonal factors as well. We appreciate your patience in this!
Once you're all setup, keep track of scheduling by visiting the online SHINE Schedule!
If you have questions about your match, please contact info@shinehalifax.com.
Step 1: Application
SHINE Academics is always looking for new tutors to join our team! If you are enthusiastic about helping others and are familiar with elementary, junior high or high school math and science, we would love to hear from you!
In the past, we would meet each week in Halifax (Tuesday) or Dartmouth (Wednesday) for one-on-one tutoring. A lot has changed during this 2020-2021 year due to the pandemic, and we have rarely been able to meet in person. For this reason, much of our sessions have taken place via ZOOM. This has come with both benefits and challenges, which we will happily orient and support you through so you are comfortable with this modality of tutoring. As you support your students, we are right there supporting you!
Overall, within SHINE, we as a group strive for excellence in our efforts and hope to find others that share in this passionate initiative to Support, Help, and Inspire through Non-profit Education.
