You've been invited to join the SHINE team!

 

You have now made it to the initiation stage of the tutoring process. The online Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check is half test of your future tutoring skills and half imperative, critical requirement for tutoring in the library space. Please get this process started immediately.

Step 1 - Complete forms provided at SHINE tutor orientation - you will require 3 references (name and phone number). This information will be kept on file and used to initiate your background check.

Step 2 - Let us know if you've completed a MyBackCheck.com CRC/VSC in the past 6 months. You have? That's great! Send an electronic copy to info@shinehalifax.com and your work here is done. If you haven't, continue on to Step 3.

​

Step 3 - Wait for your email invitation from MyBackCheck.com. If you don't already have an account, you will have to setup one up, which will take 20-30min. Make sure to record your login information! 

Note: When prompted, activate your account immediately, as it is time-sensitive.

Step 4 - Within your MyBackCheck.com account you should have received an invitation from the HRM Libraries to conduct a CRC/VSC. Make sure that you have given permission to do this.

​

Step 5 - Wait for an email from Halifax Police! This is a very important step that is easily missed. Approximately 3 days after you have accepted the MyBackCheck.com invitation, you will receive an email from an individual from Halifax Police. It sometimes ends up in junk mail, so be sure to look for it. Within this email there is a document containing your VSC serial number. You must put this number into your MyBackCheck.com CRC/VSC page from HRM Libraries!

Step 6 - Are you done? Make sure you are! You can check by opening your MyBackCheck.com and confirming you have collected all 3 green checkmarks!

Q: I am still waiting to receive an email from MyBackCheck.com. What should I do?

A: Please check your junk folder. If you are still unable to find it, please contact us. 

 

Q: I opened my results but I can't see my personal serial number. What should I do?

A: You likely opened the document on an unsecured device (e.g. IOS). Please find a secure network (a.k.a. desktop computer) so that the document can open properly.

Q: I have recently completed a CRC/VSC through MyBackCheck.com for another program/organization. Am I able to use this for SHINE?

A: Yes! Just take a screenshot of the completed MyBackCheck.com page (all green checkmarks) and e-mail it to info@shinehalifax.com with the subject "CRC/VSC".
