We provide free math and science tutoring in Halifax, NS!
Founded in 2013 by Loran Morrison and Chloe Zinck, SHINE Academics is an independent program that has been developed and maintained by volunteer university students. SHINE strives to make learning math and science fun by nurturing the academic abilities of all students, enabling them to happily achieve their goals in and out of the classroom. With a passion for helping youth, along with strong academic backgrounds, the SHINE team is fully prepared to help any student with the unique academic challenges that he or she is facing. Students within the Halifax Metro area, primarily those within the North End community, will be accepted for private or group math tutoring as long as spaces are available; no student will be turned away based on academic or financial circumstances.
This independent non-profit initiative has been made possible by the contributions of many individuals, including volunteers, teachers, and librarians. With full financial support from Gordon Stirrett Wealth Management, this program remains completely free for its students, while providing them with access to all materials and resources necessary for a positive and meaningful learning experience.
In Halifax, SHINE sessions take place between 4:00-8:00pm on Wednesday each week, in the space graciously provided by the Halifax North End Memorial library. In fall of 2017, SHINE Yarmouth was born, thanks to enthusiastic volunteers and the support of the Yarmouth YMCA. Sessions in Yarmouth also take place on Wednesday, from 4:00-6:00pm. We welcome you to pop by our sessions while they're in action, or contact us by email, to learn more about how you can get involved!
